Oman Engages in Strategic Discussions at ICAO General Assembly

Montreal: The Sultanate of Oman is actively participating in the 42nd Session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)'s General Assembly, currently being held in Montreal, Canada. The session, which spans from 23 September to 3 October 2025, sees the attendance of representatives from 193 countries and 18 international organizations.

According to Oman News Agency, Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, who serves as the Transport Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, delivered a speech emphasizing the pivotal role of the civil aviation sector in bolstering Oman's national economy and enhancing its regional and international air connectivity.

Al Shamakhi highlighted Oman's impressive compliance with international safety and security audit programs, achieving a rate of over 95 percent. This accomplishment positions Oman among the top countries globally in terms of aviation safety and security.

Furthermore, Al Shamakhi reiterated Oman's commitment to seeking membership on the ICAO board through 2026. He emphasized Oman's active involvement in formulating international policies aimed at improving the safety, security, and sustainability of the global civil aviation sector.

During the assembly, Oman, represented by its Civil Aviation Authority, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This agreement is designed to foster enhanced cooperation in aviation safety, by adopting best practices and adhering to accredited international standards.
