Sayyid Fahd Receives GCC Ministers of Higher Education, Ministers of Education

HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al-Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers today received GCC Higher Education and Research Ministers and GCC Education Ministers.

The ministers were attending the 23rd meeting of the Committee of GCC Ministers of Higher Education and Research and the 7th meeting of the Committee of GCC Ministers of Education, currently hosted by the Sultanate of Oman.

After welcoming the guests, HH Sayyid Fahd expressed his appreciation for the efforts they have been undertaking to develop education, higher education and research. He stressed the importance of achieving further cooperation among member states to ensure the realization of the desired goals in those sectors.

Then, HH Sayyid Fahd spoke about the attention accorded to education in Oman, notably the qualitative expansion taking place in this sector and the efforts made to upgrade it in line with a long-term future vision.

HH Sayyid Fahd explained that education constitutes the basic pillar of the progress and prosperity of nations. He added that investment in the field of education and research figures among the top priorities of the drive to keep pace progress in the world.

The meeting reviewed the most important topics on the agenda of the two ministerial meetings. It studied Oman Education Ministry’s proposals on topics of priority in cooperation and exchange of expertise among GCC states.

The meeting also stressed the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the educational process and the need to enhance cooperation in the fields of education, research, studies and teacher training, with emphasis on educational programmes aimed at protecting social values.

GCC ministers expressed their thanks to the Sultanate of Oman, chair of the current session of the GCC, for hosting these two meetings. They valued the good preparations for the meetings which, they said, contributed to achieving a positive outcome. They also hailed Oman’s constructive role in the success of the GCC march.

The meeting was attended by Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi, GCC Secretary General, Dr. Madiha Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education and Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
