Settlers attack elderly shepherd in the Jericho area

Israeli settlers today attacked an elderly Palestinian shepherd while herding in the pastures west of the ancient city of Jericho, in the east of the occupied West Bank.

According to Hasan Mleihat, an activist for Bedouin rights, three armed settlers attacked the 70-year-old shepherd while attending to his sheep in a pasture area close to where he lives, and beat him up, forcing him under gunpoint to leave the area.

Settlers have intensified their attacks against Palestinian shepherds in the West Bank, preventing them from using the open pastures for herding and at times stealing or killing their livestock, the main income generator for the Bedouin shepherds.
