Specialists from National Genome Centres to train at Harvard University

A delegation representing the Bahrain’s National Genome Centre joined the US-based prominent Harvard University for a training programme for several months.

The scholarship specialists will be training intensively on human DNA sequencing of the Bahraini community, analyzing samples documented for genetic mutations.

The participants will receive practical and theoretical training in analyzing genomic data and its applications in scientific research and healthcare.

The scholarship students will also participate in joint research projects with research teams at Harvard University, giving them the opportunity to learn about the latest technologies and methods in the field of genomics and to better identify genetic diseases.

They were selected based on their expertise and competencies in the field of genomics, as this training gives them the opportunity to learn the latest medical techniques and analysis of genomic data.

They will also be trained on clinical genetic diagnosis and increase knowledge in the field of advanced genomic research, and get acquainted with the modern technologies in force at Harvard University

The training results will contribute to the development of new diagnostic tools and treatments for genetic diseases and the improvement of the quality of health care in Bahrain by providing advanced and specialized medical services to patients.

The scientific outcome will also open up new horizons for scientific research and innovation in the field of genomes, thus contributing to achieving a positive impact on the future of genetic research and health care in Bahrain at the local and international levels.

The National Genome Center was launched in 2018, in two phases. The first involved collecting samples, while the second phase included analyzing and studying genetic mutations within the Bahraini community, linking them to phenotypes, in addition to preparing clinical genetic reports for the individual and society.
