Gaza: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) stated today that a continuous and effective flow of aid is essential to prevent the worsening of the current catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, amid an Israeli blockade that has persisted for nearly three months.
According to Oman News Agency, the statement was published in an UNRWA post on X platform, highlighting the dire humanitarian and relief crisis in the Gaza Strip since Israel closed the crossings on 2 March 2025. UNRWA underscored the urgency of the situation, indicating that Palestinians in the region can no longer afford to wait for aid. The agency specified that the Gaza Strip requires a daily influx of 500 to 600 aid trucks, which should be managed by the United Nations.
UNRWA emphasized that maintaining an “uninterrupted flow of aid into Gaza is the only way to prevent the current disaster from spiraling further.” The blockade has had devastating effects over the past 80 days, resulting in the deaths
of 58 Palestinians from malnutrition and 242 others from a lack of food and medicine, with the elderly and children being the most affected.
The Israeli occupation has been accused of systematic starvation of approximately 2.4 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by closing crossings to aid supplies that have been accumulating on the border since 2 March 2025. This has led to a state of famine within the region. Recently, the situation has escalated with the Israeli announcement of a ground invasion in both the northern and southern areas of the territory.
