UPDATE (2): Settlers, backed by Israeli police, attack Palestinian residents’ homes in Silwan

Israeli settlers today attacked Palestinian residents’ homes in the East Jerusalem town of Silwan, causing injuries to at least three youth, according to local sources.

Settlers, under the protection of Israeli police, attacked Palestinian residents’ homes in Wadi al-Rababeh neighborhood in Silwan, leading to clashes. They further vandalized a vehicle belonging to one of the residents.

Three youth were injured in the attack and were transferred to hospital for medical treatment. Israeli police also detained two youth.

“Settler violence and vandalism take place with full backing by the Israeli authorities. Sometimes soldiers take part in the assault; at other times, they stand idly by. The police make no substantial effort to investigate the incidents, nor takes measures to prevent them or stop them in real-time,” said the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem.
