Muscat: WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform owned by Meta, has unveiled a new feature that allows users to edit captions accompanying photo and video statuses after they have been posted, eliminating the need to delete and re-upload the status. According to Oman News Agency, the feature grants users a 15-minute editing window within the latest beta version of WhatsApp Beta for Android devices. Designed to enhance the user experience, the new functionality enables adjustments to descriptive text and comments accompanying statuses after publication, facilitating the correction of typographical errors or the implementation of necessary revisions. The feature allows status text edits without erasing prior interactions or displaying an "edited" label to viewers. It is limited to captions only, with no provision for altering the original image or video, thereby distinguishing it from edits made to regular chat messages, which carry an "edited" tag. Users can access the feature by navigating to the Updates t ab, selecting the desired status, tapping the pen icon, and saving the revised text. Currently available to beta testers, the feature will gradually roll out to all users worldwide through forthcoming stable updates via official smartphone app stores.
