UN Chief ‘Deeply Alarmed’ by Israeli Strike on Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza

Gaza: The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is "deeply alarmed" at Sunday's strike by Israeli occupation forces on the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza.

According to Oman News Agency, the UN chief emphasized in a statement the importance of respecting and protecting the wounded, sick, medical personnel, and medical facilities, including hospitals, under international humanitarian law. He highlighted the severe impact the attack has had on Gaza's already struggling healthcare system, expressing concern over the dwindling medical supplies as hospitals continue to receive mass casualties.

Guterres pointed out that nearly 70% of Gaza is under Israeli-issued displacement orders or designated as a "no-go" zone, leaving Palestinians with limited options for safety and survival. He raised alarms over the ongoing blockade of aid, noting that Israel has not allowed any humanitarian aid or essential supplies into Gaza for over seven weeks.

The humanitarian situation is dire, with severe shortages of food, water, and shelter materials, he warned. The Secretary-General reiterated that the United Nations is committed to only participating in aid delivery arrangements that fully adhere to the principles of humanity, impartiality, independence, and neutrality.

He stressed the need for the protection and respect of civilians at all times, ensuring they have access to basic necessities. Guterres called for the immediate restoration and renewal of a ceasefire to address the escalating humanitarian crisis.
