Baghdad: The Sultanate of Oman is participating in a two-day workshop in Baghdad, Republic of Iraq, focusing on unifying visions and efforts regarding the system of national register and vital statistics. The workshop, themed 'Your Document, Your Identity, Your Future,' brings together regional experts to discuss advancements in civil registration and vital statistics systems.
According to Oman News Agency, Dr. Khalifa Abdullah Al Barwani, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), presented a working paper detailing Oman's experience in developing its national population register. He highlighted the Sultanate's achievements in establishing digital integration and creating reliable national databases, which are considered leading efforts in the region.
Oman's involvement in the workshop underscores its commitment to enhancing regional cooperation and sharing expertise in statistics and digitization. The nation aims to contribute to the development of national methodologies for vital statistics and the creation of advanced data systems, thereby improving government services and boosting the efficiency of development planning.
Organized by the United Nations Population Fund in collaboration with relevant Iraqi departments, the workshop seeks to explore successful international experiences in civil registration system development. It also aims to discuss best practices in institutional coordination and data automation to support informed decision-making.
The workshop further examines strategies for building a comprehensive and unified national register in Iraq, which would integrate sectoral databases, enhance data protection, ensure citizen privacy, and prepare for a digital transition phase in the country.
