Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) today celebrated the 7th anniversary of Muscat International Airport and the 10th anniversary of Salalah Airport. These airports are essential components of Oman's national air transport system, featuring advanced infrastructure that aligns with global standards and technologies.
According to Oman News Agency, the CAA reaffirmed its commitment to creating a secure and sustainable operational environment that boosts the civil aviation sector's competitiveness and enhances Oman's appeal as a premier regional aviation hub. This initiative supports the goals of Oman Vision 2040 in achieving sustainable and balanced development.
Muscat International Airport, since its opening on 11 November 2018, has become a pivotal hub in Oman's air transport network. It ranks 11th globally in the category of 15-25 million passengers annually. In October 2025, the airport recorded over 1.06 million passengers, a 12 percent increase compared to October 2024, which had 955,000 passengers. The airport also maintained flight stability with approximately 8,000 flights in October 2025.
In 2024, the CAA enhanced the airport's infrastructure by opening the southern runway project, meeting International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards to bolster international and domestic air traffic. That same year, Muscat International Airport earned several international accolades, including 'The Best Airport in the Middle East' for 5-15 million passengers and awards for staff excellence, ease of journey, and cleanliness.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Salalah Airport has become a key hub connecting Dhofar Governorate to Oman and the world, significantly supporting tourism in the region. The airport experienced a 15 percent increase in passenger traffic in October 2025, handling over 104,000 passengers compared to 91,000 in October 2024. Aircraft traffic also rose by 8 percent during the same period.
Salalah Airport has maintained a 5-star Skytrax rating since 2019 and climbed to 4th place globally for airports handling fewer than two million passengers. In 2024, it received five awards, including 'The Best Airport in the Middle East' for its category, and accolades for ease of journey, staff excellence, cleanliness, and enjoyability.
