Coronavirus in Palestine focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, The coronavirus pandemic in Palestine dominated the front-page headlines of two of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said five people have died of the disease and 536 new cases were recorded in Palestine in the previous 24 hours.

They said four people have died in East Jerusalem of the virus and 350 new cases were recorded from Friday until Sunday.

Al-Ayyam said the corona situation in Gaza is getting worse as the ban on movement went into its sixth day.

Al-Quds said Palestinian police in Jenin stopped 20 weddings in the city and around it in their bid to fight the spread of coronavirus.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted the Fatah Central Committee meeting yesterday in which it said that a united position is important to face the challenges facing the Palestinian cause.

It quoted Fatah Central Committee member Jibril Rjoub saying that a meeting will be held on Thursday in Ramallah headed by President Mahmoud Abbas and attended by the heads of the factions.

Al-Ayyam quoted Palestinian officials saying that the leadership is exerting big diplomatic efforts to stop the normalization of relations with Israel as an Israeli El Al jet is expected to land today in Abu Dhabi carrying senior Israeli and American delegations.

Al-Quds quoted former Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal saying a united Palestinian position will not give a cover to the supporters of normalization of relations with Israel while calling to support Gaza’s steadfastness in light of the daily Israeli attacks.

The paper said the Qatari official, Mohammad El-Amadi, is continuing efforts to being calm between Gaza and Israel.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the worst pictures of the occupation is when Palestinians in Jerusalem are forced to demolish their homes with their own hands.

Al-Ayyam had a story about the self-demolition of homes in East Jerusalem.
