Deputy Prime Minister discusses ongoing stagnation of the political process with EU representative

RAMALLAH, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the PLO’s International Relations Department, Ziad Abu Amr, met today at his office in Ramallah with the European Union Representative to Palestine, Sven Kuehn von Burgsdorff, where they discussed the ongoing stagnation of the political process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides and the absence of a political horizon for the two-state solution.

They further discussed Israel’s continued aggression against the Palestinian people, repeated incursions into the Palestinian territories and al-Aqsa mosque, attempts to change the historical status quo in Jerusalem, and aggression against the Palestinian school curriculum and education.

Abu Amr called on the EU to play a more active role to protect the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He stressed the need for the EU to promptly intervene to end the Israeli occupation, recognize the State of Palestine, and support Palestinian efforts to gain full state membership in the United Nations.

The Deputy Prime minister praised the European support in many fields, stressing the importance of cooperation, especially in light of the circumstances facing the Palestinian cause and people.
