MoFA and OCHA discusses cooperation

WAM ABU DHABI: Humanitarian cooperation between the UAE and the United Nations and the forthcoming launch of the United Nations’ Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan 2013 (YHRP 2013) in the UAE were discussed by Assistant Foreign Minister Dr Saeed Mohammed Al-Shamsi and Head of OCHA Gulf Office (Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), Khaled Khalifa today.

The Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan 2013 is scheduled between January 20-22 at the International Humanitarian City (IHC) in Dubai.

The OCHA senior official hailed the humanitarian and development assistance provided by the UAE’s charities and funds to mitigate humanitarian crises around he world.

The UAE plays a humanitarian role that stems from the political will of its wise leadership, has succeeded in achieving an outstanding international stature and based on a deep sense of responsibility has moved from providing humanitarian aid to launching development projects to contribute to international development and security.

Chief Executive Officer of IHC Shaima Al-Zarouni, in remarks at the meeting, said IHC, as the first global humanitarian and aid hub, aims to facilitate aid and development efforts by providing local and international humanitarian actors with facilities and services specifically designed to meet their needs.
