Official calls for a special UN General Assembly session on prisoners

RAMALLAH, The head of the Palestinian Prisoners Commission Issa Qaraqe called on Tuesday for a special meeting of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the situation of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

The call, made during an interview with Voice of Palestine radio, came on the heel of a mass hunger strike started on Monday by hundreds of prisoners demanding better conditions.

Qaraqe urged the Arab League to use its good offices to help the prisoners in their struggle for better prison conditions.
