The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the State’s Audit Institution (SAI), today chaired the 8th meeting of GCC undersecretaries’ committee tasked with combating corruption.
Held via videoconferencing, the meeting discussed a number of topics, most notably the accession of GCC states (as a regional bloc) to the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
It also reviewed proposed regulatory procedures for joining the international agreement and activating cooperation and coordination among GCC states and international anti-corruption departments.
The meeting discussed the plan of action to achieve a higher level of cooperation. It also looked into the “Excellence Award for the Ideal Employee” – in GCC departments tasked with protecting integrity and combating corruption.
The meeting followed up the implementation of a joint GCC programme for spreading anti-corruption awareness and introducing the culture of integrity to the curricula of educational institutions.
The meeting reviewed a draft guide on financial disclosure and the availability of media content from GCC departments responsible for enhancing integrity and combating corruption (including SAI).
The meeting also discussed a “Strategic Guide for Coordination and Cooperation between GCC Ministerial Departments and Committees”, with a view devising mechanisms to prevent and combat corruption.
In a speech on the occasion, SAI Deputy Chairman Ahmed Salim Al Rujaibi underscored the efforts made in drafting unified manuals, implementing activities to build professional competencies, exchanging expertise and developing cooperation with academic institutions and relevant organizations
