Palestinian village informed that army will seize part of its land

SALFIT, The Palestinian village of al-Sawiyeh, in the north of the West Bank, was informed by the Israeli army on Tuesday that the army is going to seize eight dunums of village land for military purposes, Sawiyeh mayor, Naim Shqeir, said on Wednesday.

He told WAFA that the army handed the city council the seizure decision, which affects land to the west of the village.

Shqeir said that two months ago the army seized between 140 t0 177 dunums of village land to establish a new cemetery for area Jewish settlements.

Land seized for military purposes usually end up in the hand of settlers to establish or expand existing illegal settlements.
