President Abbas meets with Italian FM Milanesi, discusses latest political developments

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, President Mahmoud Abbas met with the Italian foreign minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi in Ramallah and briefed him on the latest developments in the Palestinian Territories and the political process, particularly after the state of Palestine took over the presidency of the Group of 77 and China in the United Nations.

President Abbas stressed the need for international intervention to compel Israel to abide by signed agreements and not to disregard international law and state sponsors of these laws.

Abbas stressed the importance of the European role in the political process in light of the US administration’s obvious bias toward Israel.

President Abbas praised Italy’s support for the Palestinian people in building the state institutions, affirming the keenness of the Palestinian leadership to enhance and strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries to serve the interests of the two friendly nations.

On his part, Milanesi stressed his country’s support for the political process based on the two-state solution in order to achieve peace and stability in the region.

He stressed Italy’s continuous support for the institutional building of the state of Palestine.

The meeting was attended by Nabil Abu Rudeineh, presidential spokesman, Riyad al-Malki, minister of foreign and expatriate affairs, and Majdi al-Khalidi, the president’s diplomatic adviser.
