A Memorandum of Understanding, signed by RCA Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Ateq Al Falahi and UNICEF Representative to the Gulf Region Dr Ibrahim El Ziq, defines frameworks and mechanisms for joint cooperation and coordination in humanitarian prevention and response under international core commitments towards children’s rights to life, growth, primary education, gender equality, protection against violence, abuse and mistreatment.
The two signatories undertake to protect rights of children affected by humanitarian crises and disasters.
Dr. Al Falahi said the MoU opened a new chapter of RCA-UNICEF partnership and cooperation at a time humanitarian work was experiencing tremendous challenges while relief agencies were facing heavy burdens as the result of the world financial crisis, increasing severe catastrophes and conflicts, climate change, disease outbreaks, spread of hunger and poverty, food shortage and high food prices.
The MoU, he added, would open up new broader avenues of joint coordination and cooperation and strengthen joint partnership for building children’s resilience while facing difficult circumstances. ‘The MoU will add a new qualitative push to movements of the two organisations in the international humanitarian scene,”he stressed.
For his part, the UNCEF representative lauded the leading role of the UAE, and the RCA in particular, in supporting implementing local, regional and international initiatives towards children. He praised the RCA for supporting the UNICEF’s programmes.
He added the MoU underpin the commitment of both parties to advance their constructive partnership and maintain high level of coordination in sustainable development and relief programmes targeting less fortune children around the world.
