Ruler of Sharjah receives UN High Commissioner for Refugees

WAM Sharjah, Mar 26th, 2013 (WAM)–H. H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah, today afternoon received at Al Badea Al A’mer Palace United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres and the delegation accompanying him.

Sheikh Sultan welcomed the guests and exchanged views with them on the refugees and displaced people affairs worldwide, as well as their needs, especially the displaced Syrians in the light of current situation there.

For his part, Guterres expressed his pleasure about the hospitality accorded to them by Sheikh Sultan, lauding the huge humanitarian role shouldered by the Sharjah emirate worldwide, especially in the issues of the displaced and refugees.

Sheikh Sultan presented a number of his translated books on history of the region to the members of delegation.

Meanwhile, the UNHCR delegation presented a book titled: “Refuge in Islamic Sharia”. The book sheds light on the role of Islam in protection of the refugees. It was prepared by UNHCR and University of Sharjah.
