Muscat: US President Donald Trump has temporarily halted a ban on TikTok in the United States, granting the company more time to reach a deal for the social media app. According to Oman News Agency, the executive order Trump signed yesterday pauses the law banning TikTok in the US for 75 days. During this period, companies collaborating with TikTok will not face liability. The text of the order stated the pause allows the administration time "to pursue a resolution that protects national security while saving a platform used by 170 million Americans." Trump has suggested that the US government should hold a 50% stake in TikTok's US operations as part of an agreement to keep the app operational. The law, initially signed by President Joe Biden in April, mandates that TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, a Chinese firm, divest a majority of its stake for TikTok to remain active in the United States. The law went into effect on Sunday, but TikTok managed to restore its service hours after the initial ban was enforced.
