Vitamin E Improves Liver Health in MASH Patients: Study

Muscat: A recent study published in Cell Reports Medicine has shown that a 300 mg daily dose of Vitamin E significantly improves liver histology and biochemical markers in patients with Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH). Conducted across 14 clinical centers in China, the randomized, placebo-controlled trial involved 124 participants diagnosed with biopsy-proven MASH.

According to Oman News Agency, over 96 weeks, patients received either Vitamin E or a placebo alongside lifestyle recommendations. Results indicated that 29.3% of Vitamin E recipients experienced histological improvement compared to 14.1% in the placebo group. Significant reductions in liver enzyme levels (ALT and AST) and inflammatory markers (IL-6, TNF-a) were also observed.

FibroScan results suggested potential long-term benefits for liver stiffness, though fibrosis regression did not reach statistical significance. While steatohepatitis resolution rates were similar between groups, Vitamin E recipients showed notable reductions in steatosis, lobular inflammation, and fibrosis scores. These findings highlight Vitamin E potential as a non-invasive treatment option for MASH.
